Children's Private Bicycling Lessons (1, 4, or 6 lessons)

$25.00 - $510.00

We are experts at teaching new learners with experience, skill, and patience.
We help your child learn how to ride a bike with techniques that will give you confidence to get rolling safely!! See a recent unsolicited review at the bottom of this page.

Your child/children (ages 6 - 13 years old) will learn to balance, glide and then ride proficiently, as well as bike safety tips.

Your child's first private lesson will be 45 minutes to 55 minutes. If you order a package of 4 or 6 lessons.

Many begin to ride independently in 1-2 lessons, but we recommend at least 4 sessions to develop and reinforce skills and safety awareness. We recommend 6 lessons for truly building your child's confidence in riding the Beltline or other public pathways.. All lessons in a package must be used within 90 days of package booking.

Your child may use his/her own bike and helmet or rent one of our bikes/helmet. Please confirm that your child's bike is a comfortable size and in working order, with the tires, brakes (hand brakes preferred), and chain in working order. We highly recommend that you purchase your own helmet to commit to your child's bicycling journey (and for sanitary reasons).

Private lessons are convenient for your schedule, efficient, and effective.

All lessons are priced per student.
Individual lessons a la carte are $95 per hour/session (for new beginners, learning to ride and intermediate riders that need bike safety and city cycling reinforcement.)
Packages of 4 lessons are $320
Packages of 6 lessons are $470
(Add website booking fee 10% if you are not using the preferred methods of payment, cashapp or venmo)

Add $20/hr for a bike rental for each lesson.
Add $10/hr for helmet rental for each lesson.

If you are interested in semi-private lessons or guided educational rides with your group of 4 or more children, ask about our multiple student specials!

We look forward to serving you!!

FAQ
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
*Your CHILD'S Own Bike - is it the right size? is it in good operation condition? (Rental Bikes are available for $20 per child per lesson.)
*Your CHILD'S Helmet (we do have spares just in case! $15 per helmet )
*Water Bottle - important as bike lessons are hard work!
*Snacks - it is always helpful to have some fuel for your child's body as they are working
*BE PREPARED TO ESign Our Waiver (IT IS IN THE BIKE LESSON QUESTIONNAIRE) WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY INJURIES THAT MAY OCCUR DURING THE LESSON. OUR INSTRUCTION IS COMPLETELY HANDS OFF WHERE THE STUDENT CONTROLS THEIR MOVEMENT. ALL RIDERS RIDE AT THEIR OWN RISK.

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?
This is important - as the wrong clothing can be a hindrance, frustration and even a danger when learning to ride. Students should wear closed toes sneakers (laces tied tightly!) and long socks or long pants/leggings. Socks or pants protect sensitive shins which tend to get bumped frequently by pedals. Anything overly baggy (large basketball shorts, skirts ) can be a danger and a discomfort. In the colder months, we suggest bringing a warmer layer like a sweatshirt or jacket that can be easily removed for managing changing temperatures.

HOW MANY LESSONS WILL I NEED TO START RIDING?
As you can imagine, it varies bases on experience, fear, etc etc, but we typically find that most are riding in 1-3 lessons, and riding competently and confidently in 4-6 lessons- which is why we offer both 4 and 6 lesson packages. Remember that we are training you to be safe and confident cyclists- which goes beyond just being able to pedal in a straight line- often skills like stopping and safety awareness can take longer to develop. After the first lesson, you can opt to change the lesson package you originally booked based on how the first lesson went.

HOW AND WHEN DO I PAY?
As of August 2019, we do require pre-payment for private lessons. If you are unsure which package to book, you may book and pay for a single lesson, and we will allow you to pay the difference between that and the package you select after the first session. All single a la carte lessons must be paid in full before scheduling the first lesson. Packages must be booked before any subsequent lessons. All lessons in a package must be used within 90 days of package payment. We prefer that you pay via cashapp $ShaShaShines or Venmo @Shakeesha. If you prefer to pay via this website, please add the corresponding website booking fee (10%) to your purchase. If there is another mode of payment that you prefer please contact us via email at [email protected] to set up payment.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
Stuff happens - and we get it! We just ask that you give us as much notice as possible so that we can attempt to book someone else. A no show or cancellation with less than 24 hours notice will be counted as used towards your package of lessons. You can reinstate your lesson for a $95 fee.

WHAT IS YOUR INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY?
A little rain never hurt anybody and riding in the rain is fun! That said, there are days where weather conditions are not safe for lessons and we will cancel in that case. We typically do not cancel for expected weather in advance as Atlanta can be sunny/stormy/sunny again all in the course of an hour! If we mutually agree on the day of the lesson that conditions aren’t feasible, or if we have to call off a lesson mid-way through, you won’t “lose” that lesson and the time will be made up. However, we would kindly ask you to stick to the 24 hour cancellation policy in the event the weather conditions are suitable for riding. It’s not fair to us or our other Lane Share Education students waiting on lessons to cancel that day just for the threat of rain showers.

WHERE DO YOU TEACH THE BIKE LESSONS? We teach most of the beginners bike lessons in Atlanta at Brown Middle School, teacher's parking lot adjacent to the Westside Beltline. We only teach there while the school is not in session. It is an extremely low to no traffic area. After the student as gained enough skills, we can take our lessons over the the Beltline for real life training.

If you would prefer to have sessions closer to your neighborhood, there is a $65 scouting fee and a $50 fee/per session to come to your location within 20 miles of metro Atlanta. If you have an ideal location in mind, please communicate that to us so we can confirm that it has the characteristics that make it a safe place for a beginner to practice.

HOW DO WE BOOK THE NEXT LESSON?
We strongly recommend you book lessons 1-2 times per week when you purchase a package, as consistency is key to progress. Weekend spots fill first so book early for first choice! Weekday hours are also available during any daylight hours. Email [email protected] as soon as you know your availability and make your payments as stated above.

WHAT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DO YOU TAKE?
We use low-to-no traffic areas for lessons, within neighborhoods, parking lots and public spaces, and typically utilize extra hi-vis cones to enhance visibility in the teaching area.

TESTIMONIAL: Just a quick thanks for introducing me to Shakeesha of Lane Share Education. She worked her magic with my son earlier this summer. Her kind, relaxed, very present style and skills were such a great fit for him. He is so proud and happy to be able to ride a bike!

When my son gets back from camp I know he'll be ready to join us after finishing with Shakeesha. We'll have a new family activity, and I know my son will be out by himself too, enjoying his independence. He already has asked me how far from home he can go.

I assume you know how great Shakeesha is and get thanks and testimonials all the time. Just wanted to add mine to the bunch. ---- very satisfied Atlanta boymom
